The Treasure State

Yesterday we enjoyed our first full day at Glacier National Park. We had a guide for the whole day, named Pete. He is a middle school science teacher that does hiking guides as a summer job. It was great having him along for all of our adventuring. He knew a ton about the history of the park as well as all the facts about the trees and rocks. The water here is gorgeous! It's practically crystal clear. First we took a long a car ride up to Logan Pass- which just opened yesterday. On the way up we saw about five mountain goats, which was really cool! There were feet of snow up on the mountain that we got to play in- vann, Maggie, and Sarah Hayden actually went sledding! When we were up at Logans Pass we were all very cold probably because we were all in shorts...but down the mountain felt wonderful! After we left Logans Pass we went down the mountain to have lunch. We had a cute little picnic with a table cloth and everything. We also got to use very interesting toilets at lunch to...pit toilets. They were like never ending holes..that were pretty smelly. After our wonderful lunch we traveled back up the mountain a little to St. Marys falls- which was absolutely gorgorgeous! We kept hiking up to Virginia falls which was also breath taking. We also met some fellow Alabamaians! Its funny how a roll tide to complete strangers can start a long conversation! on the way to our car other hikers saw a black bear, but we just missed it. We did see a ram on the way back home though- and dad says he saw a deer! We stopped at a homemade ice-cream shop on the way back to the lodge. I got huckleberry- which is native to Montana and so yummy! We ate dinner at a restaurant called Tupelo in downtown. It's known to be a southern style restaurant, the owner is from LA but Tupelo is in MS...which does t make much since. Also this "southern" restaurant doesn't have sweet tea. We came home and all fell asleep pretty quickly! We have been getting emails from our sweet dog Chloe, we miss her very much! Today we are
going whitewater rafting in Glacier National Park! We are all excited about our wet suits we get to wear for rafting! I'll post later about our fun adventure! Thanks for following our super fun trip! We are having a blast!
Love,
Douglas
