We arrived at the ranch yesterday just in time for lunch! We were greeted with wonderful staff that took all of our luggage to our cabin while we sat down and had a yummy lunch followed by a fantastic tour! Vann, Maggie, Mom, and Dad went straight to the pool(which is heated) after unpacking. Sarah Hayden and I stayed in the cabin and unpacked and did a little reading before orientation. Orientation consisted of an overview of all the activities and programs that would be taking place this week. After we all headed into the dining room for a family dinner of chicken and ribs...a real southern meal. All of the children age groups played a huge game of dodge-ball after dinner...even the parents got involved after a while! We learned the Mountain Sky song which is to the same tune as Father Abraham. Dad and I stayed on the porch for a while till about ten when we headed back to our cabin. The cabins aren't exactly air conditioned but the mountain breeze felt wonderful to sleep with! This morning Mom and Dad went on a Sunrise Hike at seven in the morning....the rest of us decided to get a little bit more sleep. Surprisingly, Vann was the last one to get up this morning. We got dresses in our cowboy/cowgirl attire for breakfast! The breakfast buffet was incredible...so much food! After breakfast we had our first activity of the day horseback riding! Mom's horse is named after some wine, but I forget it. Dad is riding Chief this week. Sarah Hayden has Dusky, Vann has Skeeter, I forget Maggies, and I am riding Ditto. Ditto was very stubborn and lazy today but she will loosen up..I hope! The man terrified of horses had a blast! I don't think my Dad can wait to get back on Chief! Well cell phone service is non-existing here. We have wi-fi in the Lodge so I am having to do the blog here when I have a chance! Did I mention unlimited milkshakes, icecream, Coke, root beer floats, shirley temples, and so much more! I could for sure stay here for a while! We are the only "southern" people here so we get lots of comments on our accents and names, its pretty funny. Someone even said "red tide" to me today, I didnt have it in me to correct them but just gave them a "roll tide" back! It is awesome and sooo nice! We are loving it!
xoxo,
Douglas
